If you already know your new home needs painting, doing it before you move in is usually the simplest way to get it done — but it takes more coordination than a typical repaint. Here’s exactly how we approach our pre-move-in painting service, from the first email to the final walkthrough.
1. Tell Us About the Home and Your Dates
Start by sending us:
- The property address
- Your possession date
- Your expected move-in date
- The real-estate listing, if available
- Approximate square footage
- The rooms or surfaces you’re considering painting
- Any known colour preferences
- Photos or floor plans you have access to
The sooner we know about the project, the more options we have to plan around your dates. You don’t need every detail figured out yet — just the basics, including how much of the home you want painted.
2. We Review the Property and Scope
Depending on the home, timeline and available access, we may start with listing photos before arranging an on-site review. We’ll help identify:
- Walls, ceilings, trim and doors to be painted
- Areas needing repairs or stain blocking
- Existing dark or difficult colours
- High ceilings or challenging areas
- Closets and storage spaces
- Product and finish recommendations
- Areas that should be completed before furniture arrives
The goal is to find the surprises before the crew shows up, not after.

3. We Finalize Colours and Finishes
Choosing paint colours sounds simple — until you’re staring at 47 slightly different versions of warm white. Lighting, flooring, cabinetry, countertops and furniture all affect how a colour actually looks in a room.
If you need help, we can coordinate a complimentary colour consultation as part of the planning process. Before paint is ordered, we confirm:
- Wall, ceiling, trim and door colours
- Paint sheens
- Feature walls, if any
- Product selections
- Which colour goes in each room
Everything is documented ahead of time, so the crew isn’t solving colour decisions on possession day.
4. We Build the Schedule Around Your Move
Painting is rarely the only thing happening between possession and moving day. Flooring installation, electrical work, repairs, cleaners, appliance deliveries and movers may all need access to the same home.
We help you think through the order of work. Wherever possible, painting happens before the final cleaning and before furniture arrives. If the window is tight, we’ll help you identify which areas should be completed first.
5. We Prepare, Paint and Keep You Updated
Even in an empty home, prep still matters. Depending on the project, that can include:
- Filling nail and picture holes
- Repairing minor drywall damage
- Sanding rough areas
- Caulking gaps
- Spot priming repairs
- Stain blocking where required
- Protecting floors, fixtures and cabinetry
For clients coordinating remotely — including those moving to Vancouver Island from out of town — we keep everyone aligned with progress photos and regular updates. The goal isn’t just a new colour — it’s a home that looks properly finished.

6. We Complete a Final Review
Before we call the project done, we walk through the work and address any agreed-upon finishing details. By the time your furniture arrives, painting is off your moving checklist — not still on it.
