Even if there’s nothing technically wrong with the house you bought, it can still feel like someone else’s — their beige, their feature wall, their nail holes, their scuffed hallways. Painting before you move in gives you the chance to reset the home before your furniture and artwork define each room.
But you don’t necessarily need to repaint everything. Here’s how to think about how much to take on before moving day.

The Essential Refresh
Best for a home that’s already in good condition but needs updated colours. Commonly includes:
- Interior walls
- Minor filling and preparation
- One primary wall colour
- Selected rooms or main living areas
The Whole-Home Fresh Start
Best for homeowners who want a consistent, finished home before moving in. Commonly includes:
- Walls throughout the home
- Selected ceilings
- Trim and doors
- Minor drywall repairs
- Colour planning
- A coordinated move-in schedule
The Complete Transformation
Best suited to older or more dated homes, or a substantial colour change. Commonly includes:
- Walls, ceilings, trim and doors
- Closets
- Detailed preparation and stain blocking
- Multiple colours and feature areas
- A complete colour and product plan
Your estimate is built around the actual home and what you want completed — not a generic package. Once you’ve settled on a scope, our step-by-step guide to how pre-move-in painting works walks through exactly what happens between your first email and the final walkthrough.

A Few More Things We Get Asked
Should painting happen before or after new flooring?
It depends on the flooring work. If flooring is being removed, refinished or installed, we’ll coordinate the order with you and the flooring contractor to reduce the chance of damage or repeat visits.
Can you estimate the painting from a real-estate listing?
A listing helps us understand the approximate layout and visible condition of the home. Additional photos or a video walkthrough improve accuracy, but an on-site review is usually still needed to confirm final scope and price.
Do we have to be at the property while you’re painting?
Not necessarily. Access and communication arrangements — a realtor, local representative, lockbox, or a quick video call — can all be set up before the project starts. If you’re relocating from out of town, we walk through exactly how that works.
What happens if our possession date changes?
Let us know as soon as you’re aware. We’ll review the crew schedule and available alternatives, though new dates will depend on availability.
Do you paint ceilings, trim, doors and closets?
Yes. Your project can be walls-only or a more complete repaint — we’ll lay out the options clearly in your estimate.
